Kenya Africa Cup – News – Report Back – Linda Squair

We arrived in Nairobi on Tuesday 6 Nov. We were hosted by Gramps and Rosemary. The Team draw took place on Tuesday evening. Uganda and Kenya on their own horses, Zimbabwe and SA riding from a pool of 6 horses each. On Wednesday we rode the horses and each rider had 2 horses. We did flatwork in the morning. We then went to Susie Day ‘s for lunch and did a clear round show jumping in the afternoon. On Wednesday we competed in Dressage and the Show jumping competition. My 2nd horse got injured. In the team competition Heidi rode Redfella, Douglass rode Twitter and I rode Tamoshante for the SA Eventing team. After the team Dressage, Team SA was in the lead. In the cross country Heidi and I went clear.  I was nearest the optimum time of 4min 20 seconds coming home in 4min and 19 seconds.  Both Heidi and I went clear in the Show Jumping. For the team event I was 2nd individually and Heidi 3rd. Tamoshante got the prize for best cross country in the team competition. There were additional competitions and pools in which Heidi and Douglas were placed on their second horses in the individual competition and my second horse was injured so I couldn’t compete. Just as well as Julie, Heidi and I  picked up a tummy bug. Being on a drip between my cross country and show jumping kind of kept me going…
